Growler Gary

Overview​

Growler Gary is a Shade Gnoll NPC and immortal bartender at The Downward Dog tavern in Station 75's maintenance hub. He was killed 14 times by Mongo so Carl could collect 28 gnoll hands to activate the interdiction portal carts. After understanding the mission, Gary volunteered for the remaining deaths.

Role in the Story So Far​

When Carl found Gary, he was extremely drunk — having consumed most of his stock after watching his colleague Jumping Jen-Jen (a gnoll driver) die outside while an invisible force field kept Gary trapped inside his bar. He was consumed by guilt over his inability to help.

The interdiction portal carts required two gnoll hands (one left, one right) per cart on separate consoles. All other gnolls in Station 75 had been killed and eaten by ghouls, leaving Gary as the only available source. Mongo killed Gary 14 times to yield 28 hands (14 left, 14 right). After the fifth death, Carl explained the full mission; Gary volunteered for the remaining 10 deaths once he understood it would rescue crawlers and avenge his fallen friends.
