The Setting

Earth was destroyed on January 3rd at 2:23 AM Pacific Standard Time when an alien corporation — the Borant Corporation — executed a legal mining claim, crushing all structures on the surface. The planet's interior was simultaneously converted into an 18-level dungeon. Survivors who were outdoors at the moment of destruction were given one hour to enter dungeon entrances. Approximately 13 million people entered worldwide.

The dungeon is also broadcast as an entertainment program — Dungeon Crawler World — to quintillions of viewers across the Syndicate, an interstellar governing body of over 3 billion star systems.

Main Characters

  • Carl — Protagonist. Former Coast Guard marine tech from Seattle.
  • Princess Donut — Carl's cat companion. Grand Champion Persian, sapient in the dungeon.

Where Things Stand (End of Book 1)

Carl and Princess Donut are alive and descending to Floor 3. Mongo has bonded with Donut. Carl's ratings are massive: 124.8 Trillion views, 2.1 Trillion followers, 234 Billion favorites. Both are Level 13. Neither has selected a race or class yet — that occurs on Floor 3.

Open questions: Agatha's true nature and her connection to the Valtay Corporation; Mordecai's warning about Floors 10–12; Odette's hinted high-survival class option; Prince Maestro's challenge; and the Valtay Corporation's long-term interest in Earth's crawl.
