Floor 8 Escape

Overview​

At the climax of Book 6, Carl, Princess Donut, and a healer hit the Floor 8 stairwell at the last possible moment and are teleported out. Carl had convinced the dungeon AI to turn off its safety protections — a move that alarmed multiple alien factions. The Homecoming Queen freighter carrying 50,000 former crawlers simultaneously enters the dungeon as Princess Posse allies.

What Happened​

The Part III endgame involved:

  • Carl killing Quan Ch (using totems Golden Uzi Jesus and Asojano), looting his extensive inventory
  • Tserendolgor self-detonating a building to clear Carl's path
  • Sister Ines (corrupted by the Nebulars) controlling Amayon and threatening to destroy the church with the final key door
  • Massive zombie/demon swarms across Havana
  • Carl, Donut, and allied crawlers (Li Jun, Li Na, Louis, Katia, Bautista, Elle, Imani) fighting through the collapsing city

Carl talked the dungeon AI into turning off its safety protections — a highly unusual act that caused significant alarm among alien factions. A "bone key" existed as a fail-safe that would have let only one person through, but Carl escaped without needing to use it.

The group hit the stairwell and were teleported out. Tipid, watching footage of the escape from the Homecoming Queen, was relieved Carl didn't have to use the bone key and choose between himself and Donut.

Outcome​

Carl and Donut escaped Floor 8. The AI's action (allowing safety protections to be disabled) set off:

  • The Dream threatening to nuke the planet (restrained by Syndicate Peacekeeper)
  • An emergency Syndicate Council session where Princess Formidable argued to pull the failsafe (blow up the star)
  • The Valtay proposing to send 150,000+ mercenaries into Faction Wars to kill all remaining crawlers
  • The Homecoming Queen entering the dungeon with 50,000 former crawlers as Princess Posse allies
