Version: Book 6

Agatha

Overview

Agatha is revealed in the Book 6 epilogue to be Agent 22 of an ancient, unnamed alien species — one of the oldest still active in the universe. She is not a human crawler. She spent approximately 10 years on Earth before the dungeon began, living in Wenatchee, Washington, and entered the dungeon at the start of Floor 1 as part of a long-planned mission to recruit the dungeon AI for her faction.

First Appearance

Book 1, Chapter 26

Known Aliases

  • Crawler Agatha
  • Agent 22

Description

  • Appears as an elderly woman with two bulbous eyes, pushing a shopping cart
  • Remained at Level 4 through all of Floor 1 and into Floor 2 — anomalously low progression
  • Her shopping cart contained Valtay Corporation technology
  • Peeled away from an alien collective approximately 10 years before the dungeon started
  • Her faction's agents are called by number (Agent 21 = Parvati, Agent 22 = Agatha)
  • Liked living in Wenatchee — described it as having "less of the angry humans" and being "more laid back"

True Nature (Revealed in Book 6)

Agatha is an agent of an ancient species whose faction wants to:

  1. Recruit the dungeon AI (called "the Primal" by her faction) to their cause
  2. Compete against "the Apothecary" (also called "the traitor") who wants the same thing
  3. Ultimately sweep the universe clean of biological life and free an entity called the Eulogist (currently sleeping)

She acquired access to the Apothecary's emergency information feed by killing one of their Earth-based "residuals" and taking over their body, giving her access to both factions' communication streams.

Her faction's agents rarely survive past Floor 4 or 5 in the dungeon. The Book 6 crawl is described as their last chance before mantid upgrades make the dungeon AI unreachable.

Role in the Story

Books 1–5

Agatha first appeared pushing a shopping cart into the dungeon on the night of the Transformation in Wenatchee, WA. The dungeon AI treated her differently from the very first moment — the stairs converted into a ramp for her shopping cart. She later appeared briefly at multiple floor transitions.

The Valtay Corporation (via their agent Orren) explicitly named "Agatha or any of her helpers" as a known external information source during an interrogation of Carl on Floor 5, confirming she is a known entity to alien factions.

Book 6 Epilogue

Agatha waits near the Meadowlark Elder Care facility in Wenatchee. She lights a barrel fire to attract a crowd and trigger a dungeon entrance, then enters the dungeon to begin her mission on Floor 8.

Her agent partner, Parvati (Agent 21), made a bold move in Mumbai, killing a Syndicate agent and infiltrating a Borant-employed human, and now goes by "Alexandro."

Known Relationships

  • Carl — encountered (suspicious); Carl sensed she was not what she appeared
  • Parvati (Agent 21) — faction partner; entered Earth at the same time as Agatha
  • Valtay Corporation — known to each other; Orren named Agatha explicitly as an intel source
  • The Apothecary — rival faction competing for the same goal (recruiting the AI)
