Agatha
Overview
Agatha is an elderly crawler who navigates the dungeon pushing a shopping cart. She has a highly eccentric, cackling personality — but demonstrates awareness, intelligence, and knowledge that are deeply inconsistent with her apparent state. Her Valtay Corporation equipment, the dungeon's special treatment of her entry, and the Valtay Corporation's own acknowledgment of her as a known quantity all point to a connection that has not yet been confirmed.
First Appearance
Book 1, Chapter 22
Known Aliases
- Crawler Agatha (Crawler #7,450)
Description
- Appears as an elderly woman with two bulbous eyes
- Pushes a shopping cart through the dungeon; a pink plastic flamingo is in the front
- Eccentric speech and behavior — cackles, makes seeming non-sequiturs
- Has never chosen a dungeon class despite surviving to at least Floor 3
Known Facts
- On the night of the Transformation, set fire to an eldercare facility she was camped outside, forcing hundreds of elderly residents out. The dungeon entrance opened in the street among them.
- The dungeon stairs transformed into a ramp when she first approached — the AI appeared to accommodate her specifically. This happened again at the Floor 3 stairwell entry (Book 2/3).
- Was edited out of the Floor 1 boss battle episode broadcast. Mordecai deflected Carl's question about why.
- Her shopping cart contained three Valtay Corporation items: a Trans Tunnel 7C Orator Relay (inter-tunnel communications device, flagged illegal by the dungeon AI), a Valtay Perso-Shield Platinum Edition, and a Mag 3040 Valtay Corp Pulse Pistol.
- When Carl referenced her shopping cart, she gave him a sharp warning look.
- On Floor 2 she told Carl: "Them critters already know I'm here. They just don't know what to do about it."
- Remained at Level 4 through all of Floor 1 and into Floor 2 — anomalously low progression. At the Floor 3 stairwell (end of Floor 2), she was Level 8.
- Still listed as human race, with no class chosen, when she passed Carl at the Floor 3 stairwell.
- The Valtay Corporation liaison Orren explicitly named "Agatha or any of her helpers" as a known external information source when interrogating Carl (Book 4, Ch19). Orren confirmed none of her associates were in Carl's bubble.
- At the start of Floor 7, Donut spotted what appeared to be Agatha — with what looked like a shopping cart — in a glass room at the edge of their vision.
Known Relationships
- Carl — encountered repeatedly; Carl keeps his suspicions private and stays away from her
- Valtay Corporation — known to them; Orren named her directly
