Role in the Story So Far
Katia first appeared on Floor 3 when Hekla asked Carl to shelter her while Brynhild's Daughters regrouped. On Floor 4, she discovered Hekla had been secretly targeting her with invisible bolts. During the confrontation, Katia's Rush ability struck Hekla as she fled under a phase cloak — the impact was fatal. Katia leveled from 24 to 37 in a single moment, earning the first golden skull of the season and a 500,000 gold bounty. She looted Hekla's Enchanted Repeating Crossbow and permanently joined Carl and Donut's party. She received a Club Vanquisher membership tattoo and the Enchanted Shade Gnoll Riot Forces Crowd Control Shield, upgrading her Rush to Crowd Blast. She disguised herself as Carl during the Trainyard E battle to distract Grull and Prince Maestro.
On Floor 5, Katia used her shapeshifting abilities extensively for reconnaissance and combat. Her Crowd Blast became a key tactical tool. At the end of Floor 5, she led a splinter group that separated from Carl and Donut's team, taking Gwen, Louis, Firas, Florin, and Daniel Bautista's associates with her. She kept the Twister airship. The Left Fang of the Green Sultan (Eva Sigrid's saber) was returned to her via Carl in Chapter 33.
On Floor 8 (Book 6), Katia's starting location was Iceland, where she encountered a significant drug addiction. She had been using Travis Priest (a powerful stimulant), Creamsicle Charm, Blitz sticks, and Glory Bound — substances that together caused permanent stat damage (reduced INT, CON, and CHA; increased STR) and made her permanently susceptible to addictive spells. At the Desperado Club, she underwent a withdrawal process using a drug cure Imani C. provided. She chose not to regrow the missing fingers on her right hand. In Iceland she also completed an Astrid quest involving an orchid and tiara, and obtained a kting voar totem for the T'Ghee card game. She was active in the Part III Havana endgame. Daniel Bautista was visibly angry at Carl over how the drug addiction situation was handled.
On Floor 9 (Book 7), Katia serves as General of the Princess Posse faction. A "Several Days Earlier" dream chapter reveals her past: she was a nurse, fled a difficult domestic situation, had a husband named Fannar who left her for a student, and was not permitted to adopt. She has a skull-headed bird card (Annie) in her inventory.
In the chapter 54 temple fight, she and Prepotente used Black Nimbus potions to escape. She and Donut jointly inherit Blood Sultanate assets after Vinata's death in chapter 55, per prior arrangement. At the end of Floor 9, Daniel Bautista notes he "almost did something horrible or jealous" but held back — ongoing tension around Katia.
