Floor 8: The Ghosts of Earth

Overview

Floor 8 recreates Earth as it was in the final days before the Transformation, populated entirely with memory ghosts — non-corporeal recordings of people, vehicles, and animals. Memory ghosts lose their clothing when they collide; ghost vehicles still move through streets and can knock crawlers off motorcycles. The entire floor is themed around humanity's last chapter.

Phase 1: The Ghost Cities

Crawlers are dropped into Earth cities and landmarks scattered across the globe. Starting locations include:

Phase 1 mechanics:

  • 14-day window to fill squads (max 5) with captured NPC totems via T'Ghee card battles
  • Corrupted NPC settlements (like the Colón Cemetery Ghommid village) must be cleared
  • Residuals — long-lived non-standard entities left by alien factions — appear in certain locations
  • Saferooms appear as various civilian buildings, usually staffed by bopca proprietors

Phase 2: Faction Wars

Squads with completed card decks face off against opponent squads in structured T'Ghee card game battles. This transitions into the broader Faction Wars on Floor 9.

Key Phase 2 mechanics:

  • Squad leader draws from their totem deck while minions guard them
  • Winning grants access to opponent decks and cards
  • Opponents cannot be trapped or attacked until the squad leader approaches
  • Enemy deckmaster becomes corporeal only when the fight begins

Key Locations on This Floor

  • Colón Cemetery / Necropolis de Colón — Havana, Cuba. A massive boss chamber housing a corrupted Ghommid settlement (Pueblo de los Olvidados). Multi-block, fog-filled, with a Club Vanquisher saferoom called The Yellow Zone inside a gothic crypt.
  • Iglesia de Jesús de Miramar — Havana, Cuba. A church holding the final key door. Guarded by Sister Ines and the demon Amayon in Part III.
  • Iowa Trailer (memory ghost event) — Carl's father's dying location. A quest-linked Residual event.
  • Cuba Homeless Shelter (memory ghost event) — Christmas morning Residual encounter. A message in Syndicate Standard was pre-written on the wall.

Mobs and Threats

  • Ghommids — Spirit creatures native to thin-veiled areas. In their settled form they are NPCs; corrupted, they become Unsettled Ghommids (Level 30 undead).
  • Duendes — Small mobs found in the Havana area.
  • Zombie crabs and seals — Undead coastal animals that swarm Havana in Part III. Communal mind. Those grabbed by crabs are pulled into hell.
  • Demons — Freed from shells, they scatter; the highest tier are Level 140 pleasure demons.
  • Amayon — A massive demon possessing the Madre de Aguas snake, used by Sister Ines as a weapon in Part III.
