Orthrus

Overview

Orthrus is a juvenile feral god in the form of a massive two-headed dog. Son of Emberus, he becomes trapped in Bubble 543, where Carl and Donut work to keep him alive.

Description

• Type: Juvenile feral god / gate guardian
• Level 10
• Appearance: A two-headed dog of enormous size — large enough to fill much of a bubble — but still puppy-like in behavior. Left head primarily for sniffing; right head for licking. Floppy ear on one side. Enormous tongue lolls from the left head.
• Behavior: Innocent, fragile, playful; his god-level power is largely dormant

Role in the Story So Far

A world quest is issued for crawlers to kill Orthrus, with a significant bounty. Quan Ch attempts to claim it. Carl intervenes, keeping Orthrus alive while dodging the active bounty on the dog.

Carl pilots the gnomish Nightmare II biplane with Donut in the rear seat to approach Orthrus's heads. Donut casts multiple Heal Critter spells while they fly past, restoring Orthrus to full health. Carl then casts a Scroll of Meat Hooks to lure Orthrus out of the water quadrant, completing the objective for Emberus.

At the end of Book 4, Orthrus escapes with his father Emberus to the 12th floor.
