Porthus

Type: Former Crawler First Appearance: Book 7, Porthus POV chapter

Overview

Porthus is an elf (or elf-race) crawler from a previous season of the Crawl, introduced through a POV chapter set between Floors 10 and 11 of his own crawl. He is at the outreach guild, weighing his options about taking a deal.

His partner Menerva screamed "Go, run" during the 10th floor; he does not know if she survived.

The Pacifist Network

Porthus is the architect of the Pacifist Network — a covert operation that stole funds and coordinated with the families of Earth crawlers to buy generation ships. He brokered a deal with Baroness Victory long before she became an adjutant. The ships fled to the Impetus Point (the furthest known location in the galaxy), then beyond.

He also wrote an entry in the Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook.

The Apothecary and the Eulogist

Porthus trusts the Apothecary — the collective mind working with his network — in a way that Rosetta does not. The Apothecary holds information about the Eulogist that Porthus cannot share with Rosetta or anyone entering the dungeon, because anything shared risks the dungeon AI learning it — and then the Eulogist learning it.

Rosetta believes the Eulogist is dead. Porthus knows otherwise.

He is described as being "a few steps ahead of everybody."
