What Happened

Katia's team discovered that the sandcastle's magical door could be opened by connecting electrical cables during a sandstorm, creating a glass hallway as the lightning fused the sand. An alternative plan existed — a drainage panel on the necropolis wall that would flood and destroy the sand castle — but using it would have turned Ghazi to mud and lost the winding box. Carl chose the lightning door method.

Inside, Ghazi had transformed himself into a sand elemental while pursuing the Gate of Feral Gods. His wife, Mrs. Ghazi, became a Sand Ooze (Level 52 Borough Boss) serving as castle guardian, under orders from Samantha (Psamathe).

Mrs. Ghazi hunts by vibration and sound and, once she grapples a target, escape is nearly impossible. Her weakness: a glowing yellow core (yolk-like dome) always located under the recliner chair in the corner of Ghazi's basement workshop. Only fire hot enough — specifically a white-hot burn gel — could damage the core. Regular fire is insufficient.

Carl hung upside down from the ceiling using his Sticky Feet ability. Donut distracted the ooze using clockwork Mongos and a banger sphere playing "Jump Around." Carl doused the core with burn gel (moonshine mixed with alchemical paste) and ignited it, defeating Mrs. Ghazi.

Carl acquired the winding box (part of the Gate of Feral Gods) from Ghazi. The two watches had already been found: one with Commandant Kane's corpse (Chapter 16) and one by Ghazi himself.

Outcome

  • Mrs. Ghazi defeated
  • Winding box acquired — all three Gate of Feral Gods components now in Carl's possession
