The Changelings

Overview​

A shapeshifting NPC race who secretly infiltrated Hump Town by posing as members of the Dromedarian faction. Their deeper goal is to cure "Compression Sickness," a birth defect affecting approximately 25% of changeling offspring caused by dungeon conditions. By the end of Floor 5, changeling children escape through the Gate of the Feral Gods to Floor 6 with Carl's help.

  • Shapeshifting NPC race; capable of convincingly impersonating other species.
  • Led by Henrik (Changeling Principal), who posed as a Dromedarian official within Hump Town's power structure.
  • Immediate goal: find and use the ghost of Quetzalcoatlus (Subterranean Quadrant guardian) to obtain her plant-altering magic.
  • Deeper goal: cure Compression Sickness — a birth defect affecting roughly 25% of changeling offspring, caused by conditions in the dungeon.
  • The Gate of the Feral Gods is connected to their quest for a cure and a means of escape for their children.
  • Juice Box, a changeling prostitute working Hump Street, is Henrik's sister. She became a key NPC ally for Carl throughout Floor 5.
  • At the end of Floor 5, changeling children escaped through the Gate of the Feral Gods to Floor 6, in exchange for Juice Box agreeing to carry the winding box through the portal.
